Mipham's primary teachers were [[Patrul Rinpoche]] and [[Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo]], both incarnations of the tertön [[Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa]]. Khyentsé Rinpoche requested Mipham to preserve the [[Nyingma]] teachings through teaching, debate, and composition—a task in which he admirably succeeded.
