One of the virtuous mental factors. It is concurrent with all virtuous cognitions. Shame is restraint from misdeeds out of consideration of the harm to oneself. Compare it with modesty (khrel yod pa).
In English the adjectival form "shameful" has strong negative connotations, so it is preferable to use the older adjectival form "shamefast" which does not have such connotations. DKC
