Discussion

Described by Master Vasubandu as that which aims the minds toward and engages the focus. The English word generally used to describe this process is attention.

The Sanskrit and Tibetan words literally mean, "making in the mind," but an excessively literal translation of this would imply mental fabrication in English, which is not correct. Some translators suggest "considering" or "deliberation" but that seems to involve more cogitation than just turning the mind towards and engaging the focus. (Considering seems a better translation for rtog pa/vitarka.) DKC
