The raw lac (rgya tshos), lac encrustations detached from the branches of the hostplant (stick lac, rgya skyegs), is liquefied through heat to remove the impurities (bark scrapings, lac bugs), then dried and traded in form of flakes or cakes as Lac or Shellac (la cha).
