The image in the Medical Thangkas accords quite well with the Chinese medicinal cockroach (Coridius chinensis), whereas the notice in the Eye Ornament clearly depicts and describes a dung-beetle. 'These different opinions have also influenced the identifications made in the modern academy, for some scholars think that the jingjing tulu is a dung beetle, while others write that it is a stink bug. A third group identifies the jingjing tulu as a wingless cockroach.' (Czaya 2019)
The Chinese Pharmacopoeia prescribes the Chinese Medicinal Cockroach for the drug Eupolyphaga.
