(med) Halite NaCl, common salt, rock salt (Drungtso 1999, Phrin Las 1987, Yeshi 2018).
Synonym : tsha.
There are numerous alkaline and saline lakes in Tibet, and salt was always an important trade item. Difficult to say which names are simple synonyms or varieties of which we ignore the properties and subtleties. Halite is natural sodium chloride (also named rocksalt; water-soluble), colourless, whitish, yellow, red, purple or blue. Occurs both as evaporite deposits in saline lakes and watercourses, or as bedded sedimentary deposits, or as salt domes (mindat.org).
