According to tradition, the linage of this teaching is: [[Lord Buddha]] who passed it on to [[Maitreya]], then to the brothers of [[Asanga]] and [[Vasubandhu]], and eventually down to [[Serlingpa]], [[Atisha|Lord Atisha]], [[Dromtonpa]], [[Potowa]], [[Sharawa]] and then finally  to [[Chekawa Yeshe Dorje]].
