A hallmark of the Rangjung Yeshe Institute has been its ability to combine traditional Buddhist monastic learning with crucial aspects of modern academic scholarship. In partnership with Kathmandu University, RYI is home to the Centre for Buddhist Studies, which offers an academic program leading to BA and MA degrees in Buddhist Studies with Himalayan Language. The Centre for Buddhist Studies also provides research facilities for international scholars of Buddhism. The faculty at the Centre for Buddhist Studies is comprised of scholars from both the traditional Tibetan and  Western academic traditions, thus constituting a unique environment of learning and expertise.

The Centre is located at Ka-Nying Shedrup Ling Monastery, just a few minutes walk from the Great Stupa of Boudhanath in the midst of thriving Buddhist cultures and traditions.
