Discussion

contact. One of the universal mental factors, and also the sixth of the twelve links of interdependence. As a mental factor, it refers to the contact that, when the object, faculty, and consciousness combine, differentiates between pleasant, unpleasant and neutral.

As a link of interdependence, it is described variously in different presentations, but in general it is the contact of sense base with object which then gives rise to feeling.

The Pali, Sanskrit, and Tibetan words can all be literally translated as "touch," and are used to describe the object of body consciousness as well as the above meanings. These languages do not use a separate word for these meanings. DKC
