Himalayan vultures are indigenous to the uplands of central Asia, from 600 to 6000 m, predominately inhabiting the mountainous terrain of the Tibetan plateau. Himalayan vultures are highly respected within the Buddhist culture of the Tibetan plateau, playing a unique role in a centuries old sky burial tradition (animaldiversity.org).
