Despite the similarities in plumage to the egrets of the genus ''Egretta'', it is more closely related to the herons (wikipedia).
The name skyar mo denotes egrets and herons, but the images in 'Phrin-las and 'Jam-dpal differ considerably. Neither image in the Medical Thangkas shows an egret or heron. 'Phrin-las (23_090) is quite unspecific, and (33_063) recalls a grebe, maybe a Crested grebe. 'Jam-dpal's image accords approximately with an egret, but the given synonym chu skyar denotes usually gulls.
