the five parallels [RY]
Discussion
five concurrences. The five ways in which mental factors are combined and associated with mind. The five are support, object, focus, time, and substance.
The Sanskrit word prayukta means yoked or harnessed. The Tibetan actually means five ways of "having comparison," and indicates that mind and its concurrent mental factors are concurrent because they have a comparable support, etc. The Tibetan Treasury Auto-Commentary says, "Because they are possessed equally, they are possessed comparably."
Although RY suggests the five parallels, if one is going to translate ldan min du 'byed as "non-concurrent formation," one really must then translate mtshung ldan rnam pa lnga as five concurrences for consistency's sake. DKC
