'Jam-dpal describes ba men within the notice of ma he, water buffalo, but these and domestic cattle are not known to be able to hybridize.
It is a cross breed of Gaur, or rather the domesticated Gayal (Bos frontalis) and a domestic cow (Bos taurus). The range of the Gaur is from Nepal and India to the Malay Peninsula, inhabiting forested hills at elevations up to 1800 meters. Length of the body and head is up to 3.3 m, shoulder height up to 2,2 m. A characteristic hump of raised muscle can be seen over the shoulders (animaldiversity.org). See also mdzo rgod for it's possible identification with the Gayal.
