Medicago sativa L., alfalfa or lucerne.
Ancient transcription of the Chin. mu-su (from Fergana, an iranian language : buksuk or buxsux) : In 126 BCE were introduced a long sought race of arabian horses from Fergana to China, together with it's favorite fodder (alfalfa), transcribed as mu-su. In Ladakh it is known as ol, referring to Medicago sativa, indigeneous to Kashmir. In Tibet proper the plant is unknown (Laufer)
