(sman)
dGa' ba'i rDo rje (1995) gives the Cantor's Rat Snake (Ptyas dhumnades) as the general type for sbrul and gives 6 more specific names, with a description of a snake species each :
1. sman sbrul, Beauty Rat Snake (Elaphe taeniura)
2. g.yu sbrul, Chinese Green Snake (Ptyas major)
3. gser sbrul, King Rat Snake (Elaphe carinata)
4. lcags sbrul, Many-banded Krait (Bungarus multicinctus)
or Steppe Rat Snake (Elaphe dione) (Drungtso 1999)
5. sbrul chen, Indian Rock Python (Python molurus)
6. thag sbrul, Red Banded Snake (Lycodon rufozonatus)

All species are non-venimous constrictors, with the exception of the Many-banded Krait, which is one of the most venimous snakes worldwide. It has some genetical proximity to australian species and true sea-snakes.
The Chinese Pharmacopoeia prescribes 3 species for the drug snakeskin : 1. Elaphe taeniura, 2. Elaphe carinata, 3. Ptyas dhumnades. All are ratsnakes, non-venomous constrictors of rodents.
