Meteoric iron (Das 1902), meteorite, a metal that falls on Earth from the sky during the lightning (Drungtso 1999). Ni-bearing metallic (non-oxidized) iron is found only in meteorites and never in terrestrial metallic iron. Until human beings were technologically able to separate oxygen from the natural iron oxides which surround us, the only metallic iron was found in meteorites (both as the dominant constituent in iron meteorites ('irons') and as a significant constituent in most stony meteorites) mindat.org.
