body, speech, mind, and cognition. Concerning the four factors of body, speech, mind, and cognition (lus ngag yid sems bzhi), mind refers to the mind consciousness (yid kyi rnam shes) and cognition (sems) refers to the all-ground consciousness. In the Lower Abhidharma it is taught that yid, sems and rnam shes are merely synonyms for the same meaning. The Higher Abhidharma teaches that sems is the all-ground consciousness, yid is the disturbed mind [consciousness] and rnam shes is the six collections (tshogs drug).
