Sphalerite, ZnS. ti tsha'i thal ba. Sphalerite ash. (Drungtso 1999) Sphalerite, also known as blende or zinc blende, is the major ore of zinc. When pure (with little or no iron) it forms clear to white crystals. Yellow to orange sphalerite is often called "golden sphalerite." Red shades of sphalerite are known as Ruby Blende. Smithsonite is often found as a secondary mineral in the oxidation zone of zinc ore deposits. It can also be observed in sedimentary deposits and as a direct oxidation product of sphalerite. Calamine is an early name for Smithsonite. (mindat.org) Johannes Schmidt (talk) 06:47, 21 November 2021 (UTC)
