Meltable stone medicine. Sphalerite (Zinc sulfide [ZnS]), also known as blende or zinc blende, is the major ore of zinc. When pure (with little or no iron) it forms clear to white crystals. Yellow to orange sphalerite is often called "golden sphalerite." Red shades of sphalerite are known as Ruby Blende. Native zinc or zinc powder is ti tsha dkar po. See also gangs thigs (Smithsonite and calamine). The indian name kharpara refers to zinc ore, calamine and Zn-carbonate (Smithsonite).
