Parmelia lichen are treated in the medicinal stone section. Lichens have medical and nutritional value, but play also an important role in the rock mineralisation. See also gser skud for other Lichen in the medicinal plant chapter. In the Himalayas and SW China Yang & al. (2021) found 142 lichen species used as medicine and 42 species used as food, uses with considerable overlap. Some are used in incense, for perfumes and other local uses. They concluded that due to low productivity and over-harvesting certain genera have reached already an endangered state.
