Natural salt medicine. In the Shel gong, big pan is said to be tshur sngon, blue vitriol (copper sulphate). Das (1902) gives for sag ram rtsi, one of the synonyms, sulfuric acid. Chalcanthite is natural, watersoluble copper sulphate (Copper(II) sulfate pentahydrate, CuSO4·5H2O). A secondary mineral that is formed in arid climates or in rapidly oxidizing copper deposits. It is usually of post-mining formation, forming on mine walls and by the action of acidic surface waters on copper veins. Also called blue vitriol or copper vitriol (mindat.org).
The indian names tuttha, nīlatutte refers to a blue, crystalline substance, that effloresces and turns white when heated, copper sulphate, blue vitriol (wisdomlib.org).
