Of the 60 tropical and subtropical species of this woody climber, 30 are endemic in China. It is rich in alkaloids and it's tuberous roots are widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (Flora of China). The tibetan illustrations show branch cuttings, and the notice is in the branch section of the medicinal tree chapter.
