Unlike most vultures, the bearded vulture does not have a bald head, and – unusual for birds of prey – they have a lozange-shaped tail. With it's long, narrow wings it is not closer to other vultures than to hawks. It is the only known vertebrate whose diet consists of 70–90% bone, clearing even the least desirable remains other scavengers would not eat.
