The third tulku of Chokgyur Lingpa at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery

Brief Biography[edit]

Born in 1953, the second son of Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, Lungtok Gyatso, was recognized by His Holiness, the 16th Karmapa, as the 4th reincarnation of Terchen Chokgyur Lingpa of Nangchen, eastern Tibet.

The 4th reincarnation is known as the Kela Chokling, recognized at Tsurphu, who fled Tibet in 1959 with his father during the Chinese takeover. He and his older brother, Tulku Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche, were educated at Rumtek, Sikkim, the seat of the Karmapa. In 1975, both lamas joined their father, Tulku Urgyen in Kathmandu, Nepal and established the Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery where Tulku Chokling Rinpoche now resides.

He is a tertön and lay practitioner with a wife and four children. His oldest son has been recognized by His Holiness Dalai Lama as an important Taklung Kagyü tulku. The youngest son was recently recognized by Trulshik Rinpoche as being the reincarnation of Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche.

  • At Tsurphu, the 16th Karmapa, Rigpey Dorje, recognized another incarnation of Kela Chokling, the second son of Tulku Urgyen, called Lungtok Gyatso. After arriving in India, he was enthroned at Rumtek Monastery and given the name Dewey Dorje. He has completed many studies. This tulku of Kela Chokling is not an ordinary person and has had many visions of Guru Rinpoche. At times he gives very reliable predictions. I think that he is a true incarnate terton and I have complete confidence that he is a tulku of Chokgyur Lingpa in the Kela lineage. He is married to Dechen Paldron, a daughter of the Terdhe family and they have two sons. One son has been recognized as the tulku of Dilgo Khyentse. Everyone now puts great hopes in this new son.
  • Chokling Rinpoche’s full name is Chokling Mingyur Dewey Dorje Trinley Künkyab — Supreme Sanctuary, All-Pervading Activity of the Unchanging Blissful Vajra.RY
  • Chokling Mingyur Dewey Dorje was present amongst a large group of incarnate masters, ordained and lay persons in 1978 for an empowerment and transmission offered by His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, of the entire termas of Chokgyur Lingpa at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery in Boudhanath, Nepal. During this proceeding, His Holiness also included explanatory instructions on Jamgon Kongtrul's The Light of Wisdom (ISBN 9627341371), which is published by Rangjung Yeshe Publications.
