: "In 1294, Kunpang Tukje Tsondru (1243-1313) founded the main Jonang monastery in Jomonang, which gave the name to the tradition. Reportedly, this monastery was modeled on the traditional layout of the Kingdom of Shambhala as shown on Shambhala thangka paintings.
