nature of mind / Mind Essence (sems ngo), (sems nyid), (sems kyi chos nyid), (sems kyi rang bzhin).

  • The nature of mind, synonym for 'buddha nature.' It should be distinguished from 'mind' (sems), which refers to ordinary discursive thinking based on ignorance. 'Mind Essence' is the basic space from and within which these thoughts take place. [RY]
