learned elders, abbot, professor employed to teach, head of a monastery, 1 of gnas pa dgu, abbot, preceptor, master of initiation, usually means abbot of a Buddhist monastery [JV]
khenpo. A title for one who has completed the major course of studies of about ten years' duration of the traditional branches of Buddhist philosophy, logic, Vinaya and so forth. Can also refer to the abbot of a monastery or the preceptor from whom one receives ordination [RY]
Upadhyaya, Preceptor. A teacher, in certain instructional or ritual functions such as advising a translator or giving ordination [RY]
Preceptor, upadhyaya. Principal officiator at the ordination of a monk or nun [RY]
