Azurite (Hydrous copper carbonate [Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2]), from the ancient Persian lazhward, meaning "blue", in allusion to the color. Azur-blue, vitreous, secondary copper mineral frequently found in the oxidized zones of Cu-bearing ore deposits, often together with malachite. A number of mining sites in western and central Tibet (mindat.org).
