Namkha Ösel (nam mkha' 'od gsal) (? – 1726) --- The first incarnation in the line of the Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoches, one of the historical abbots of Dzogchen Monastery. This renowned master received teachings from both Nyingma and Kagyü teachers before meeting his root guru, the first Dzogchen Rinpoche, Pema Rigdzin. Namkha Ösel was known especially for his mastery of the Khandro Nyingthig teachings, Heart Essence of the Ḍākinīs. He is said to have given yearly teachings on this topic at the retreat center of Dzogchen Monastery, The Sanctuary of the Great Secret Definitive Meaning. CJD
