Dharma protectors are deities which are clearly classified as such (chos skyong srung ma). E.g. Mahakala, Palden Lhamo, Ekajati, Damchen Dorje Legpa etc. Dharma protectors are further subdivided into the three classes of: awareness protectors (ye she kyi mgon po), activity protectors (las kyi mgon po) and worldly protectors ('jig rten mgon po). Again for those who don't seem to know the difference: Vajrapani, Vajrayogini etc. are YIDAM deities. Their function is an entirely different one from those of Dharma Protectors!!! Ergo: they DO NOT belong in this category!!! Ask your lamas!!! And it's not a matter of interpretation either. Start a new category YIDAM deities!!! (TSD)
