He works now as a research fellow at the Institute for the History and Culture of India and Tibet at the University of Hamburg. His research in progress is dealing with the Indian origins of Tibetan mahāmudrā traditions. He obtained a PhD from Marburg University with a translation and study of the Dharmadharmatāvibhāga and recently completed his "Habilitation" at the University of Hamburg with a work on ´Gos Lo tsā ba gZhon nu dpal´s (1392-1481) mahāmudrā interpretation of the Uttaratantra (Tib. rGyud bla ma). Dr. Klaus-Dieter Mathes already published his critial edition of gZhon nu dpal´s Uttaratantra commentary in the monograph series of the Nepal Research Centre (check the local book shops in Bauddha or contact the Franz Steiner Verlag in Stuttgart).
