Dhṛtarāṣṭra (=yul 'khor srung, 'Guardian of the Environment or Environmental Guardian'), one of the Four Great (Heavenly) Kings (caturmahārājikā). Protector of the Eastern direction, and god of music. His symbolic weapon is the vīṇā, a stringed instrument similar to a zither, harp or lute. He is harmonious, compassionate and protects all beings. He uses his music to convert others to Buddhism, and is associated with the color white. [Erick Tsiknopoulos]
