The Shel gong shel phreng describes 5 types of 'od ldan : 1. dbud rtsi rtag ngu with yellow flowers, the most important type. 2. 'jam dbyang rtag ngu with yellow flowers. 3. spyan gzigs rtag ngu with white flowers. 4. phyag rdor rtag ngu with blue flowers. 5. rta mgrin rtag ngu with red flowers (Kletter 2001).
'Jam-dpal mentions 3 types of rtag tu ngu, but describes only a superior and inferior one. The legend of the illustration has rtag tu ngu and dkon, the latter name is not mentioned in the text.
The Shel gong gives rtag ngu as synonym for 'od ldan. The same notice gives rise to an identification of rtag ngu with a Drosera sp (Dawa 1999). In (2009) basically the same text is taken, but here rtag ngu is synonym for 'od ldan and identified with Saxifraga species. 'Jam-dpal's image in the Eye Ornament is closer to Saxifrages.
