The Shel gong distinguishes 3 qualities, the superiour or shing cu gang (Tabashir, Bamboo manna), a medium one or chu cu gang, and an inferiour one or sa cu gang (Kaolin).

Bamboo manna from Bambusa textilis. In its crude state, when taken from the inside of the bamboo stems, it still is mixed with insect remains, and has a blackish appearance; but on gently calcining it, it becomes quite white, with a pearly lustre. It consists of about 80 per cent of pure silica, with variable proportions of alkalis, water and organic matter. The indian name tvakkṣīrā means 'bamboo milk' (wisdom.org) It can be substituted by Kaolin, sa cu gang.
