The fruits of gser gyi phud bu appear like a beetle with cut head. The herb that has a growth pattern similar to gser me (Herpetospermum pedunculosum), with yellow flowers, fruits enclosed in fibres like a coconut and having black flattened seeds appearing as beetle with cut head is considered as mchog (superior) or bzang (good). The seed may also be white. The dman pa (inferior) variety grows in grassy herbs and appears like sNal-ma'i phud-gzugs (conical spindle of woollen yarn).' (Dawa 1999)
