Jam-dpal's illustration shows a Snow lion. Asiatic lions (Panthera leo persica) belong to the single remaining subspecies in this region. Once roaming from Greece to central India, Asiatic lions persist in the teak forest in the small Gir Forest preserve of northwest India. It differs from the African lion by a less developed mane (wikipedia).
