so bya usually denotes the Cormorant, but the thangka image in Phrin Las is the Common Merganser, Mergus merganser. so bya, 'tooth bird', the beak has the form of a toothlike saw (David Holler). The Common merganser is shown under the name chu bya ir mo in Tibetbirds.com
