The Shel gong shel phreng distinguishes 3 types of spang rtsi do bo : 1. spang rtsi do bo, growing in the plain with a long stalk, unlobed leaves and white, round-shaped flowers. Withered, is it compared to an old man's head with grey hair. 2. lug rtsi do bo, grows in meadows with rich soil, also with unlobed leaves, but hairy, multi-coloured flowers having a fragrant smell. 3. spang rtsi 'byar bag can grows on mountain sides with rich soil and has sticky, lobed leaves. Bassecoia hookeri is cited as main type for spang rtsi do bo. All Saussurea spp. are mentioned only in Gammerman's russian dictionnary (Kletter 2001).
The last herb spang-rtsi 'byar bag grows in fertile soil and hill slopes. Its leaf is sticky and incised. It is also called ldum bu ru rta (Dawa 1999)
