Generally taken as a worm or caterpillar. The spru ma plant is ill defined for the moment, with a superior and inferior white type, a black and a yellow type. Furthermore, Sangye Gyatso speaks in his commentary of the Four Tantras of the 'seed of the spru ma plant', spru ma'i 'bru, with the only exception in the context of the thangka image. Most scholars have abstained from identifying spru ma'i 'bu. (Czaja, 2019).
