Processed salt medicine. Contains potassium carbonate, calcium carbonate, phosphates and traces of other elements. See also thang tshwa. A water-extract of burned plant ashes, called potash and composed mostly of potassium carbonate, is mildly basic. After heating this substance with calcium hydroxide (slaked lime), rdo thal, a far more strongly basic substance known as caustic potash (potassium hydroxide) was produced (wikipedia).
