Mingyur Rinpoche is a reincarnate lama who holds both the [[Kagyu]] and [[Nyingma]] lineages. Rinpoche was recognized as the incarnation of the previous Mingyur Rinpoche by the [[16th Karmapa]], and as the incarnation of [[Kangyur Rinpoche]] by [[Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche]]. From the time he was eight, rinpoche spent most of his time in strict retreat. He first lived with his father, [[Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche]], at [[Nagi Gonpa]] in the hills above Kathmandu. In his early teens, he left for [[Sherab Ling]], the seat of [[Tai Situ Rinpoche]], where he completed a three year retreat. After completing this retreat, at the age of 17, Rinpoche was appointed retreat master of the monastery. He then divided his time between periods of intense meditation, including receiving the hearing lineage of [[Khenpo Ngaga]] from [[Nyoshul Khen Rinpoche]], and study at [[Dzongsar Shedra]], one of the most renowned monastic colleges outside of Tibet. Mingyur Rinpoche has been appointed by His Eminence Tai Situ Rinpoche to be the head of Tergar Monastery, which is being constructed at [[Bodh Gaya]] and is scheduled to open January, 2007.
