"Precious medicine, which is the king of all pacifying medicines, shall be explained.
By frequent reliance on decoctions, powders, pills, pastes, and medicinal butters, the body gets used to these medicines, and disorders remain untreated. In such cases, precious medicines, the most effective pacifying medicines, should be used.
Precious medicines treat all 404 disorders without exception, such as disorders of the blood; the tridoṣa, all kinds of wounds, whether of the head, torso, or limbs; chronic disorders such as first-degree to third-degree edemas, leprosy, and malign tumors; inflammatory disorders such as diphtheria and inflammation of the muscle tissues; and all disorders influenced by evil spirits. [Precious medicines] have a ‘rejuvenating effect’ when taken by a person not suffering from any disease."
The rGyud bzhi treats Precious Pills in the 11th chapter of the 4th tantra. This chapter is translated by Gehrke & Ploberger (2017) https://www.academia.edu/36419424/Jewels_in_Medicines_On_the_Processing_and_Efficacy_of_Precious_Pills_According_to_the_Four_Treatises
The potency of the ingredients can be amplified, when compounded mercury sulphide is incorporated, see mtshal thal.
