3. Datura metel L. (Solanaceae) Thorn apple, White datura ('Phrin Las 1987). Synonyms : man da ra ba (Molvray 1988). Sanskrit : dhattūra, dhustūra (Pandanus).
4. Datura stramonium L. (Solanaceae) (Wangyal 2020). Reported name dha du ra. Synonym : thang phrom (Dawa 1999).
The genus Datura originates from Central America, with Datura metel of great cultural and medical importance. Not known in Europe or China before the 16th century, it's discussed presence in India might go back as far as the 4th CE and later on in the Arab world. It could have been introduced by early polynesian travellers and further migrated in SE Asia, similar to the introduction of the South American Sweet Potato.
