The Bodhisattva Mahāsthāmaprāpta. [Erick Tsiknopoulos]
The Bodhisattva Mahāsthāmaprāpta ("Attainer of Great [Spiritual] Power"), who is sometimes identified with Vajrapāṇi. He dwells in Amitābha's Pure Land of Sukhāvatī, where he serves as one of the two main bodhisattva students of and assistants to Amitābha Buddha. In East Asian Buddhism he is considered one of the "Three Pure Land Sages", the other two being Amitābha Buddha and Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva; together this trio guides beings to the Pure Land.
