The ferns cited from a northern source in Molvray (1988) is a strange substiute. brag skya ha bo is a main entry in the Shel phreng, and the plants are described as flowering plants. It gives as one synonym btsun mo re ral, the 3rd type of ldum bu re ral of a preceeding entry and identified as different ferns. The illustrations in Dawa 1999 and 'Phrin las 1987 show flowering plants. <br>
Of the 3 types of '''ldum bu re ral''', the Shel gong describes the first type, '''rgyal po re ral''', in the notice '''[[ldum bu re ral]]''' itself. The second and third type of ldum bu re ral are described in the 2 subsequent notices. '''blon po re ral''' is described in the notice '''[[brag spos]]''', where it is given as synonym. Similar for the third type of ldum bu re ral, '''btsun mo re ral'''. It is given as synonym for and described in the notice of '''brag skya ha bo'''. The first two types are describes and identified as ferns, the golden spots mentioned indicate certainly the sporangia. The third type is described as a flowering plant and identified accordingly, except for northern sources where one finds ferns. The Medical Thangkas are also ambiguous.
