cedar used medicinally [JV]
Himalayan cedar, deodar/devdar/devadar/devadaru cedar, red cedar, blood-red cedar, "plains-blood cedar". Its scientific name is Cedrus deodara, a combined Latin/Sanskrit etymology which comes from colloquial Hindustani देओदार deodār or devdaar, through Medieval Hindi देवदारु devdāru, ultimately from Sanskrit देवदारु devadāru, 'divine tree' (Latin cedrus meaning 'cedar'). In Nepali it is pronounced dēvdār and in Bengali as dē'ōdār. [Erick Tsiknopoulos]
