(= Pali id.; Skt. in other mgs.), distress, trouble, adversity: ye…utpadyetsuḥ āśravā vighātā pari- dāghā…(in Pali also foll. by pariḷāha) Mv iii.338.2; esp. used of the needs of poor (‘needy’) people: vighāto me cīvareṇa…pātreṇa…glānabhaiṣajyena Śikṣ 268.7, (Bendall and Rouse, I am worried about, but it really means) I need a robe, etc., said by a monk to a wealthy patron; °ta-kṛtaṃ (dānavipratibandhahetuṃ; in 8, duḥ- khaṃ) Bbh 130.6, 8; vighātārthika (cf. vighātin with arthin), a petitioner, beggar, in distress, °ka-yuktaṃ… dānaṃ Bbh 114.5, °ka-dānam 14; °kaṃ, prob. error for [Page483-b+ 71] °ka-, dānaṃ 133.3, resumed by °ka-dānaṃ 10; others, in cpds., see Index.
