Cutting-off ritual. The practice primarily common to the {zhi byed} tradition of Tibetan Buddhism formed by Phadampa Sangye. The term is derived from the nature of the instructions on which this practice is based; that love, compassion and bodhicitta sever selfishness; the view of emptiness severs the root of cyclic existence (saṁsāra); and the common practices sever the four demonic forces (see {gcod lugs kyi bdud bzhi/}).
