lug ru, « Sheep's horn », refers to the form of the flower beak. The Shel gong shel phreng distinguishes 3 types according to flower color and habitat : a dark red, lug ru smug po, grows in dry, stony areas. The red type, lug ru dmar po, has reddish-pink flowers and grows near streams. The yellow type, lug ru ser po, grows near streams of lower altitudes and gives off a fragrant smell. This last type is again divided in white and yellow type (Kletter 2001). glang sna includes a groupe of Pedicularis spp with flower reminding an elephant's trunc.
