(sman) Aconites
The Shel gong treats 4 groupes of aconites : white, red, yellow and black aconites (bong nga dkar po, bong nga dmar po, bong nga ser po and bong nga nag po). The distinctive feature is the colour of the caudex, the lower stem part next to the root. The first 3 groups are considered as less toxic, and the last group, black aconites, as highly toxic.
At the end of the notice of the black aconites follows a part with explanations on names according to different criteria taken into account, for example outer, inner and secret names for the 3 main types :
'White' aconites : ra dug, 'dzin pa and bdud rtsi lo ma.
'Yellow' aconites : btsan dug, dpa' chen and 'bri tsil ma.
'Black' aconites : bong nag, ha la and bi sha nag po.
Or according to plant parts :
Leaves, flowers and stalks : 'outer 'dzin pa.
Roots : 'inner' 'dzin pa.
Fruits and shoots : 'secret' 'dzin pa.
Or according to flower colours :
White flowers : 'dzin pa.
Yellow flowers : btsan dug, dpa' bo, dpa' bo chig thub, 'bri tsil ma and mdzo sna.
Dark blue flowers : bi sha, ha la and mthing nag khros.
Violet flowers : spyang dug.
Light blue flowers : ra dug, bong nga zla bral (?).
And so on. May be it reflects the diversity of aconites. Of the 400 species of the temperate Northern hemisphere, some 360 are described in the Flora of China.
